Jag har varmkört bilen några gånger i vinter, men nu tänkte jag ta en liten provtur. Då lägger startmotorn av, som tur är i garaget, helt död. Tar bort oljefiltret för bättre åtkomst. När jag lyckats plocka bort eländet ser jag att fjädern är av också. Kollar på nätet och faktiskt har SNG Barratt i Tyskland rätt startmotor (OK då, modern "High Torque") och till bästa priset också. Beställde motor och oljefilter på fredag, levererad på onsdag förmiddag! Jag gör i ordning en ny strömkabel och försöker montera startmotorn, lyckas få den på plats, men får inte i båda bultarna. Upptäcker att problemet är att den bygel som håller bultarna på plats tar i torpedplåten, den var vänd 180 grader åt andra hållet på den gamla motorn. Kapar av och svetsar ihop, men den övre "oåtkomliga" bulten går inte i ordentligt. Ut med motorn igen, jag borrar och gängar 2 M5 hål i flänsen mot bulthålen och sätter i stoppskruvar. Nu sitter motorn på plats. Någon före mig har haft ur startmotorn för ett rejält hål är urklippt i torpedplåten så man kan komma åt muttern för den övre bulten från passagerarsidan. Monterar oljefiltret och provstartar, motorn startar direkt. Kliver ur och ser flera liter olja på golvet, suck. Den stora O-ringen i toppen av filtret har hamnat lite snett. Sanerar oljespill, rättar till felet och nu fungerar allt som det ska.
I've run the engine a few times this winter, but now I thought I'd take a little test drive. Then the starter cuts out, luckily it's in the garage, completely dead. Removed the oil filter for better access. When I've managed to remove the old starter, I see that the spring is broken as well. Check online, and SNG Barratt in Germany actually has the right starter motor (OK then, modern "High Torque") and at the best price too. Ordered the motor and oil filter on Friday, delivered on Wednesday morning! I prepared a new power cable and tried to mount the starter motor, managed to get it in place, but couldn't get both bolts in. Discover that the problem is that the bracket that holds the bolts in place is touching the bulkhead, it was turned 180 degrees the other way on the old starter. Cut it and welded it together, but the upper "inaccessible" bolt doesn't go in properly. Out with the starter once again, I drill and thread 2 M5 holes in the flange against the bolt holes and fit set screws. Now the starter is in place and secured. Someone before me had to take the starter out before, because a big hole had been cut out in the bulkhead so you can access the nut for the upper bolt from the passenger footwell. Installs the oil filter and makes a test start, the engine starts immediately. Get out of the car and see several liters of oil on the floor, sigh. The large O-ring at the top of the filter has ended up a little crooked. Cleans up the oil spill, corrects the problem and now everything works as it should.

Kollade bakom täckpappen hur bensinpumpen och slangarna ser ut. Helt OK! Oljestickan som satt i motorn var avbruten, jag hittade endast en oljesticka på nätet, begagnad och dyr, 700 kr. Den var dessutom för lång, avsedd för motorer med ett distansrör i blocket. Efter mycket surfande hittade jag måttet från block till min-max-nivå för oljan och kapade och märkte om oljestickan.
I removed the cover for the fuel pump to inspect the condition of the pump and hoses, and it appears to be in good condition. The oil dipstick in the engine was broken off, and after an extensive search, I found a used one on eBay, expensive, 60 pounds! And when fitting it, it was too long, as it was intended for engines with an extension tube for the dipstick. After extensive internet research, I found the correct measures for max-min oil levels and cut and marked the stick accordingly.
